Mediumship and Complimentary Therapies for Self-Awareness and Inner Well Being

Article by Mark Richards

People have forever been fascinated by what lies on "the other side", when spirit departs flesh and yet does not become extinguished and disappear. There are those whose brief it is to communicate with those spirits and to inform and to reassure those who grieve their passing over.

A medium is described as an "organ of communication with spirits", whose role is facilitate communication between those spirits and those to whom they wish to establish contact.

A psychic is a person with the ability to tap into information that is hidden from the normal senses, frequently conveying that information to third parties.

The practice of mediumship takes on several forms. Mental mediumship is the description given to the process in which the medium receives thoughts, emotions, feelings and information through the mind. The medium must then interpret all that information, whether verbally or in any other form, to the recipient.

Sometimes the medium will enter into a state of trance ("trance mediumship"), or an "altered state of consciousness". Often this will induce behaviour that is inspired by the spirit in contact, be it speech, writing, an act of artistic creativity or suchlike.

The essence of trance mediumship is that the medium becomes removed from that that is going on all around and absorbed into a deeper state of consciousness that enables him or her to draw purely upon the spirit present without the medium's own thoughts or actions distorting the message.

The third form of mediumship is that that induces the power to heal. The medium acts as a kind of human conductor of energy that derives from a spiritual source and is channelled into the person who is undergoing healing.

Mediums undoubtedly have their fair share of critics. Those who deride their work accuse them variously of deliberate trickery or of being delusional. In response they will cite testimony from those they have worked for and helped.

What isn't often appreciated is that tho! se invol ved in mediumship and psychic healing are not always stubbornly protective of their talents. On the contrary, many trained, qualified healers offer classes and courses to encourage others to create self-awareness and promote well being.

Sometimes these focus not only upon healing and psychic awareness, but also on holistic and relaxing complimentary therapies including de-stressing techniques and meditation, and treatments such as reiki, ear candling treatments and Indian head massage.

The medium helps a lot of people from all walks of life to improve their lot, promoting happiness and generating awareness of one's self along the way.
