Spiritual Fitness and Bodywork Center

Article by Alton Sanders

It is my sincere privilege to present the Spiritual Fitness and Bodywork Center to all who are searching for a higher quality of life. My name is Alton J. Sanders, and I am pleased to introduce you to a new world of physical, spiritual, and mental fulfillment at levels you may not have thought were possible. Seeing all the pain and suffering in the world around me, has given me the tremendous passion to do everything within my power to help others realize and experience health of body, mind, and spirit, as well as, full physical potential. I've been actively pursuing this goal since I began in bodywork and massage therapy in 1998. Since then, I've developed a true love for helping people feel wonderful from the inside out.I must encourage all who begin this journey, to be proactive about wisely researching the background of anyone before entrusting them with your care. Never feel intimidated to check references and ask for proof of qualifications. An authentic professional will always make you feel comfortable seeking answers to all of your questions. I'm pleased to share with you that my personal road to the healing arts began as a massage therapist at the National Holistic Institute of Massage Therapy (NHI), at which point, led to my degree in Physical Education to solidify my knowledge of bodywork. It became quickly obvious to me, though, that true physical health is not merely limited to our bodies, but instead it's an integration of body, mind, and spirit. I knew I was not satisfied with just giving clients a temporary fix to their discomfort; I wanted to learn to provide both a holistic and physical treatment. The first step to this endeavor needed to ensure that my capabilities and knowledge were at a professional level. It was important to me to take the National Exam for Massage Therapists not only for my client's assurance, but for my own personal integrity as a licensed therapist. There could be no doubt that I possessed the skill and training necessary to perform safe and therapeutic m! assages; so in March of 2000, I passed the National Certification of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB) exam while concurrently finished my BA in Physical Education. Little did I know that this would lead to the great honor of being asked to become a member of the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork to help write the national test! I accepted with great pleasure in 2005, and it has pushed me to accomplish more toward my personal goals in striving for nothing less than the very best in my fields of body, mind, and fitness.I worked hard to establish my own massage therapy business while taking advantages of many amazing opportunities to work with chiropractors, physical therapists, health care providers, and other body professionals. A few short years later, I began teaching massage therapy. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy working with students, but it allowed me to learn so much more as a teacher. I feel that it was my thirst for knowledge that encouraged me, within a year, to accept the position of massage coordinator. When teaching, you never stop learning; so supervising up to 7 other therapists instructors, all while still teaching my own classes, was greatly rewarding. My yearning to truly attain skills and expertise to enrich the lives of others has encouraged me to refuse to limit my scope of education. I can now help individuals with experience as a body sculptor, fitness manager, and personal trainer. My search to broaden my knowledge led me to the arts of LaStone®, Esalen Massage, and Reiki. I was privileged to receive training at the Retreat of Esalen, which is nestled in the utterly prismatic setting of Big Sur, CA, under the founder of LaStone® therapy methods herself, Mary Nelson, LMT, MLST. I can reflect on opportunities that have challenged me to truly enrich my understanding of bodyworks and spiritual enlightenment, one of which was in July of 2001, when I achieved Reiki Mastery and went on to teach Reiki I/II classes. This truly added to my repertoire of a fu! ll 730 h our curriculum which has included: Anatomy, Physiology, Body Mechanics, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Swedish, Sports Massage, Salt Glows, Business Management, Professional Development, Reiki, Chair Massage, SOAP Charting, and so much more. This however, never slowed me down; I continued to gain energy and momentum in 2006 when I became Yoga Alliance Certified, allowing me to explore the Yoga disciplines in another teaching environment with Yoga Junction in Suisun, California. My journey for discovering a deeper and holistic wisdom within bodyworks and massage therapy has truly led me to the most satisfying, and incredible achievement within my current business - Spiritual Fitness and Bodywork Center. My passion is to come alongside my clients and bring them to the place of experiencing the true serenity, beauty, and tranquility of massage, intertwined with energy, nutrition, and bodywork together. Don't believe the lies that pain and stress are lifelong diagnosis. Peace, joy, and fulfillment are attainable! This is the right place for the first step toward that life. The definition of "spirit" is "The vital principle or animating force within living beings"(thefreedictionary.com). It is my desire that each one of you become vital and animating individuals who can truly find deeper and richer relaxation and contentment and of course, truly LIVE with purpose! It is with heartfelt gratitude that I give thanks to my parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sanders, my brothers, Roy and Anthony, my sister, Sherri, and of course, my son and daughter, Tina and Randy, for all of their love and support throughout my journey which has allowed me the amazing blessings in my life. I am sincerely grateful to the Universe for opening my eyes to all the joy that has been so freely given without restraint.
