Skin Rejuvenation without the Scalpel

Article by A Aaronson

Skin rejuvenation can be effectively achieved with a variety of treatments that don't require a scalpel. Some traditional methods that entail surgery are also ways of making a huge difference in appearance, but these aren't the only ways. Some techniques require the expertise of a plastic surgeon; others mandate a dermatologist; and others can be performed by an esthetician. Here are some examples:

Needs a scalpel:

- Face lift: A face lift is a classic operation to create a more youthful appearance. This is a surgery, however, that requires a trip to the hospital, anesthesia, scalpel and sutures. This operation removes excess looseness from the lower 75% of the face, especially the jowls, cheeks and chin.- Brow lift: This is a surgical tightening procedure that targets the forehead and brow region, an area which typically shows age via wrinkling.

No scalpel needed:

- Botox: Botox is administered via a series of injections. This is a substance which relaxes muscles in the face to ease wrinkles.- Chemical peel: A chemical peel is a rejuvenation technique which involves applying a chemical solution to the surface of a patient's face. This will burn away the top damaged layer of dermis, which will then slough off. Next, a newer, tighter and fresher layer of healed skin will appear, creating a younger look.- Laser peel: This is similar to the chemical version but uses a special laser to remove the upper layer, allowing a new undamaged surface to replace it.- Photo-rejuvenation: This technique uses pulsed light to remove wrinkles and improve the appearance of the facial surface.- Dermabrasion: Dermabrasion is similar to sanding away flaws on lumber, except that a rotary tool is sanding away damaged skin. This works well on acne scars, wrinkles, indentations and flaws.- Microdermabrasion: Microdermabrasion is similar to dermabrasion except is uses finer crystals as the abrasive resurfacing agent. This is another way of removing minor scars and wrinkles.- Facials: Having a facial b! y a trai ned esthetician is another way of achieving a fresh new look. Cleansers, moisturizers, pore tightening masks, facial massage, astringents, lotions and more are applied to create a glowing complexion. Not only that, but it feels good and is relaxing, as well.

Natural DIY methods:

- Water: Drinking lots of water is a very natural way to create a dewier complexion. Our bodies are made up mostly of water. H2O is needed to keep our skin purified, perspiring adequately to clean away toxins.- Exercise: Getting enough exercise will also keep the complexion more vibrant and alive looking. Exercise amps up circulation which is good for our appearance. It also tones our muscles and makes us happier. Smiles are natural rejuvenators for our looks.- Diet: We are what we eat. Eating a healthy diet of fresh veggies and fruits, whole grains and lean proteins will create the building blocks for beautiful complexions.

Facial rejuvenation can be achieved without the scalpel. Although surgical intervention can create a dramatic new look, non-surgical techniques and natural methods can achieve great results, as well.
